2010 American Division Champion Orioles Season Highlights
Regular Season Summary
Having come so close in recent years, and having lost so many players from a year ago, it appeared that the 2010 season was going to be, at best, a "re-building" year for the Orioles. However, the team was quickly assembled and a group of players began to quickly come together as a team.
When thinking of the Orioles' success in the 2010 season its easy to think of the contributions from the O's All-Stars: Brian Siefert's dominance on the mound, Chris Rain's ability to create havoc at the top of the order, or Chris Conroy's non-stop hustle. However, the 2010 Orioles was a team of players that continually picked each other up.
Memorable Season Highlights
- Paul Ash throwing at hitter out at first base from right field, taking away a hit, and preventing a rally.
- Ed Reyes pitching three strong innings in relief against the Mariners giving his team a chance to come back and win the game in the last inning.
- Steve Chase throws a complete game against the Mariners to allow the Orioles to secure the top seed in the division.
- Anthony Martinez getting a key hit to extend an inning and ignite a rally against the Yankees.
- Javier Ortiz' tough at-bats.
- Mark De La O stepping up catching two games against the Pirates, and picking off two runners at second.
- Mark Brouse's solid play at short securing the middle of the infield.
- Chad Muller chasing down a deep fly ball in the gap.
- John Siefert waiting until the Championship to connect with a Grand Slam.
- Coop making two diving plays at first stealing extra bases from and keep the Rays at bay.
- Sal Sanchez catching two games against the Yankees without a catcher's mitt.
- Jason Bower striking out the side against the Yankees.
The individual contributions from everyone added up to a championship team, which never gave up. By season's end the Orioles were clicking on all cylinders, winning six out of their last seven games, plus sweeping their way through the playoffs with four straight wins to win it all.
