MSBL Palm Springs Desert Classic - January 17-19

Round Robin Games - Saturday/Sunday

Split the first two games of round robin, beating the West Coast Heavy Hitters and losing to the defending champ So Cal Angels.

The team looked to veteran Travis Bearden (Mets) to lock horns with another 1-1 team, Team Redbacks. Winner would get a bye to Monday, while loser would stick around and have to participate in play in game before advancing to Monday morning playoffs.

Bearden pitched a hell of a game, but due to a few errors and some timely hits from the Redbacks the Brew Crew fell behind 4-1 into the 9th. Brew Crew scored 4 in the ninth getting the tying and winning runs on Steve McLean's (Mets) two out single. Blue Crew advances to Monday semifinals against #2 seed, and defending champs So Cal Angels.

Semi Finals - Monday

Michael Monelo (Twins) threw a CG, 3 hit, 17 K outstanding performance, as we beat the Angels 8-1. Brad Shannon (Mets) hit a monster 3-Run BOMB!

In the other semifinal the San Diego MSBL Knights beat #1 seed, the undefeated Phoenix Marlins 9-3.

Championship Game - Monday

San Diego Knights @ San José Brew Crew.

The Knights drew blood early, taking a 5-0 lead and then a 7-3 lead into the 3rd inning. Brew Crew mounted a comeback in the middle innings and used Eddie Newman (Mets) on the mound to hold down the Knights.

San José took an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the 7th and turned the ball over to Michael Monelo (Twins) who had pitched a CG shutout earlier this morning! Monelo threw the final three innings and earned the save as the Brew Crew gets the 9-8 win.

Michael Monelo easily the MVP with a 2-0 record including a win in semifinals and a save in the championships game, ERA of 0.69 and 22 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
