The Colt 45's broke their single game hits record with 18 hits in a 14-2 win over the division rival Nationals. Game 1 of the doubleheader was headlined by Gabe Soza's record 4-4, PJ Phillips Jr.'s 3-4, and Matt Erlick's 3-3 performances. The trio combine to go 10-11 in Game 1.

Evan Nakagawa also looked flawless pitching 4 shutout innings striking out 6 and only allowing 1 hit.

O's jump out to an early 5-run lead in the first, only to see the Padres come right back and get 5 runs in the bottom half. This would be indicative of the kind of games the two teams would play.

O's take the lead with another 5-run inning in the fourth and extend the lead by adding single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 8th.

Padres hung tough and brought the tying run to the plate in their final at-bat. However, Chris Rains came in and retired the next three hitters to secure the win and earn the save.
