Aptos - Game 1
Reds(18) 7
Blue Jays 4
WP: Thompson. SV: Rurberte.
HR >> Reds(18): Pino, Ruberte.

Reds Overcome Blue Jays 7-4 Despite Playing With Limited Roster.

The San José Reds headed to Aptos In Santa Cruz with several of their regulars missing, but this was not going to deter them on this particular afternoon. With ace Adam Paredes not available, Medina Jr. decided to go with the hot hand and tabbed rookie right-hander Stephen Thompson as his starter, who had been nothing but impressive in his first two appearances out of the pen. "He earned the spot with his play on the field, it was a no-brainer" said the Reds manager.

Missing from his usual leadoff spot was Steve Goldberg, who was out of town, but the Reds didn't miss a beat when veteran member of the squad Rudy DeAnda stepped in and took Goldberg's spot as the table setter on Sunday and things started off well for the Reds as Brian Pino went yard with a two-run bomb to give Thompson a little breathing room in his debut start. They increased the lead to 6-1 after a four-run 3rd inning, which was highlighted by Travis Adams' clutch two run single.

Thompson pitched six strong innings, surrending three runs on eight hits with 10 K's, leaving the game with a 7-3 lead. Danny Ruberte, who had arrived late to the game due to unforseen circumstances, came up with a huge out of the bullpen by tossing three innings of one-hit ball to earn the save. He also provided a big presence at the plate, going 2-for-3 on the day with a double and home run. Others to have stellar days at the plate Sunday include Travis Adams (2-for-3 with 2 RBIs), Brian Pino (2-for-4 with 2 RBIs), and Rudy DeAnda (2-for-4 with a stolen base).

The Reds moved to 8-2 on the season with the victory.
