What a great pitching duel by the Red Sox's C. Jensen and the Pirates K. Wayne!

The Red Sox scored first early and the Pirates answered back by tying it up in the 6th. Jensen worked through a couple of jams in the later innings that set up a semi-dramtic bottom of the 9th. R. Johnstone led off the inning with a base hit, followed by another solid single down the line by K. Angelinovich. M. Johnstone ended it with a "bleeder" up the middle past a drawn-in infield.

Great pitching and defense played by both teams!

Red Sox:
C. Jensen (CG, 8 K, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 ER, 2-4, RBI), R. Johnstone (2-3, BB, GW Run), G. McGonigal (2-3, 2B), J. Lugliani (2-3).

HR >> None.

Finally, some runs! The Red Sox started off strong with a mixture of solid hits and 4-5 wind/sun aided "hits" building a 7-0 lead after two innings.

The Pirates battled back with a huge 6-run third inning and both teams were entrenched in another nail-biter after the longest three innings in Red Sox, and maybe adult baseball's history (1.75 hours!!). The Pirates answered every Red Sox rally until the Red Sox broke open a 9-8 game with a 4-run fifth (last) inning.

D. England pitched a solid 2 1/3 innings to secure the "W".

Great series by both teams!!
