Indians(18) Fold - Season Over - Forfeit All Games.

July 21, 2007

The Indians(18) team has folded and will not finish the 2007 season. Champions in three of the past four years in the 18+ Division this year's Tribe was unable to get more than seven players to a game on several occasions despite having 15 players on their roster. Manager Brian Ashley tried to add players to the team and was unsuccessful in efforts to get players to make the commitment to attend games.

Last Sunday morning Brian phoned league president Mike Zamba and announced that the Indians were unable to field even seven players for Sunday's games and were no longer going to participate in the league. Brian was frustrated, angry and exasperated after investing hours and hours of personal time to try and keep the Indians together this season.

In fairness to all the teams in the 18+ Division, the Indians will forfeit all 20 games this season. This "throws out" all of the Indians games and the division standings will only be based on games played among remaining active teams.

League standings have been updated to reflect forfeits to date. As the forfeits occur in the next four weeks for teams who were supposed to play the Indians (Twins-1, Royals-2, Reds-1, A's-2) the standings will be updated.

Blue Jay Collapses and is Hospitalized on Way to Game

May 10, 2007

Tim Erwin of the Blue Jays collapsed twice on the way to his game Sunday morning and was rushed to Dominican Hospital. Fellow Blue Jay Gino Panelli was with Erwin at the time and called 911. Panelli spent the day at the hospital by his friend's side.

Blue Jay manager Jerry Hoffman reported that Erwin was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and is home resting comfortably. After a battery of tests were performed the preliminary diagnosis is that Erwin was severely dehydrated and his body simply shut down prompting the collapses. Further diagnosis is expected once all of the test results are known. Erwin has no damage to his heart but will continue to be monitored as he takes it easy for the next couple of weeks.

Hoffman said Erwin wanted to thank everyone for their concern and he hopes to return to the field soon.

Shorthanded Jays Battle for Emotional Tie vs Pirates

May 10, 2007

With Tim Erwin hospitalized and fellow teammate Gino Panelli at his side Sunday that left only six Blue Jays to take on the Pirates at Aptos. Rather than forfeit, the shorthanded Blue Jays asked the Pirates to loan them two players so they could start the game with the required league minimum of eight players. The Pirates could have declined the request and taken a forfeit victory but opted to be good sports and loan the Blue Jays a pair of players so a game could be played.

Because the Blue Jays borrowed players to be able to even start the game, league rules reward the Pirates for being good sports by assuring them of at least a tie even if they lose the contest.

The shorthanded Jays outscored the Pirates 17-6 to earn an emotional tie for their fallen teammate. Donn Sabajo (3 Hits, 3 Runs, 3 RBI), Don Davenport (2 Hits, 3 Runs, 3 RBI) and Jerry Hoffman (2 Hits, 2 Runs, 2 RBI) paced the Blue Jay attack.

Following the game teammates visited Erwin at the hospital.

The Blue Jays would like to thank the umpires and the Pirates for their consideration on Sunday.
